History
The Institut Agronomique et Vétérinaire Hassan II (IAV Hassan II) was
established in 1966 in Rabat by a Royal Decree. The institute enjoys both moral
and financial autonomy. It was named after King Hassan II, who ruled from
1961 to 1999. The creation of IAV was driven by the need to develop local
expertise in agronomy and veterinary medicine to decrease reliance on foreign
specialists, improve food security, and support rural development.

Expansion of Disciplines:
While it initially focused on agricultural and veterinary sciences, IAV Hassan II
has expanded its disciplines over the years to include areas like rural
engineering, topographic engineering, forestry, and agribusiness.
International Collaboration:
The institute maintains strong collaborations with universities and research
institutions across Africa, Europe, and other regions. These partnerships
support exchange programs, joint research, and technology transfer, which
strengthen Morocco’s global connections in agriculture and veterinary science.
IAV Hassan II is also a member of various international organizations, including
IGSO.

Student Life and Programs:
IAV Hassan II offers a vibrant student life with a variety of extracurricular
activities, including professional organizations, clubs, and student-led projects
tied to their academic fields. One of the most active student organizations is
AMETOP, which focuses on topographic studies.
